There are a variety of digital resources that will allow your students to better understand the four domains of Global Competence. Below are links and descriptions to some useful digital resources and how you might use them in your classroom.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will allow your students to INVESTIGATE THE WORLD. These 17 goals are critical to a sustainable future for all of us. This website explains the goals in details and has ideas on how you and your students can TAKE ACTION to work towards meeting these goals. This resource is a great starting point for an investigation into Global Competency.
The World is as Big or as Small as You Make IT" (2015, Loki Films) explains the importance of RECOGNIZING PERSPECTIVES of others. This short film shows how US students points of views and actions were impacted by engaging in a virtual exchange with students from other countries. This film is a great way to get students excited about virtual collaborations and will allow you to have a deep discussion on the importance of understanding other people.
After building capacity in the first two competencies, students can COMMUNICATE IDEAS through iEARN. This is a Spanish NGO that allows students to work together virtually to tackle projects of global importance. This platform encourages students from different countries to TAKE ACTION through collaboration. There are a number of projects students can choose from. To date, students in over 140 countries have participated.
Flip Grid is another digital resource that encourages students to RECOGNIZE PERSPECTIVE and TAKE ACTION. This platform allows students to easily share and post videos they make. These videos can serve as checks of understanding for teachers, reflections for students, or a way for students to share ideas with others. This resource also has wide use around the world, so students could use this as a tool to collaborate with others. You can find out more information on this technology at Edutopia.
Through Padlet, students can post their thoughts, links, videos, and documents to a virtual bulletin board. This is a great way for students to contribute to a discussion in a virtual environment to COMMUNICATE IDEAS. Each Padlet can serve as a reminder of what was learned, while prompting teachers on what areas to re-teach or cover next. As Padlet is available in several languages, collaboration with others, or practice in a second language are also options. More ideas on how to use Padlet can be found at BookWidgets.
Those looking to integrate more technology into existing curricula can do so through Dr. Ruben Puentedura's SAMR Model. This model allows teachers to enhance or transform their curriculum based on the needs of students. The resource linked above also includes examples of how teachers have incorporated more technology into existing resources through substitution, augmentation, modification, or redefinition.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has forced all teachers to hone their technological skills. The teachers, staff, and administrators at Ogden International have done a fantastic job in getting technology to students and using the Google Classroom platform to assign work and communicate with students and families on a daily basis. The school distributed its stock of hundreds of Chromebooks to students so they could engage in learning while safely at home. Those without broadband access were issued mobile hotspots so they could connect online to their teachers and peers. Looking forward to the 2020/2021 school year, teachers are working to share their expertise, digital resources, and engagement strategies so we may better educate our students as they continue to learn while away from the classroom.
